How

With reference to your Confidential despatch

of the 30th of December last and to previous correspondence

on the subject of Messrs. Sanders Rehders' connection with

the Agency of the Texas Oil Company, I have the honour to

inform you that I learnt from recent enquiry of the local manager of Messrs. Reiss and Company that Messrs. Sanders

Rehders had not concluded with Messrs. Reiss and Company an

agreement satisfactory to the latter as stipulated in my cypher telegram of the 31st of December. Gov 10817

Subsequently Mr. Holyoak, the local manager of

Messrs. Reiss and Company wrote to the Colonial Secretary the

letter of which I enclose a copy, and I thereupon telegraphed

to you to the effect that I could not recognise any agency

to which liessrs. Sanders Rehders are a party. I enclose

paraphrase of my message and I trust that you will support

the attitude I have taken up.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant.

21/1.
